Mark D. Rubino
Mark Rubino is a highly experienced legal and compliance professional whose expertise has been honed through his success as a corporate executive, civil litigator, and federal prosecutor. He applies this unique experience to help organizations mitigate legal and reputational risk.
Mark built and led the internal investigation function at KPMG LLP as a Principal and Associate General Counsel. Over the course of his tenure, he directed more than 750 high-profile, corporate internal investigations involving potential violations of law, professional practice standards, and firm policies. He was a key player in its successful completion of a DOJ Deferred Prosecution Agreement and the diligence and forward-thinking of Mark and his team resulted in significant improvement in compliance and legal outcomes for the firm. He fostered open dialogue with regulators and government officials. He regularly reported to the Board and executive leadership, advising on emerging legal issues and remediation. He also served as a firm-wide financial crimes compliance counsel and developed and delivered training to multiple internal audiences on compliance, investigations, and mitigating legal risk.
Mark began his career as a judicial law clerk and then as a Trial Attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice in Washinton, DC, handling both civil and criminal matters in the federal courts. He also served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Miami, FL and Connecticut offices, where he successfully prosecuted significant narcotics and complex financial crimes cases, earning several commendations.
Throughout his career, Mark has been drawn to opportunities to educate and mentor rising leaders. In addition to numerous trainings he conducted at KPMG, Mark provided national instruction on trial practice and forfeiture for the DOJ. Today he shares his expertise as a Guest Lecturer in business law at the University of Connecticut School of Business. He serves on the Civilian Review Board for the Town of Westport and is an active volunteer with local civic organizations.
Mark holds a JD from Ohio Northern University College of Law and a BS in Finance from the University of Connecticut. He is a member of the Bar in NY, CT, and DC.
